Do you feel as though things couldn’t get any darker? Harder? Scarier?

Life can be hard. There can be moments where you don’t know which way is up, what the point of it all is, or what to do next.

At Starry Sky it is our mission to walk alongside you during life’s challenges with the hope to support you in your journey to find healing. It’s not easy, but you don’t have to do it alone.

We’re here to help.

Who We Are

Meet the Team

Hey, there! We’re Elisa Johnson and Nicole Penner-Landgraf, owners of Starry Sky Therapy. We’re so glad you’re here!

“Trauma is a fact of life. It does not, however, have to be a life sentence.” (Peter Levine, Waking the Tiger)

I believe that everyone deserves a space to tell their story with dignity and respect. I approach everyone I work with, with a trauma-informed, person-centered, and feminist-theory approach. That means I see you as the expert on your life and experiences, I will walk alongside you providing validation and tools along the way, and we will reference the systems/cultures that impact you. I was trained in EMDR while still in my internship during graduate school, and am now EMDR Certified. I enjoy working with adolescents 15+ through late adulthood, who want support around symptoms related to trauma/C-PTSD, depression, anxiety, social anxiety, and neurodivergencies (ADHD, autism, HSP, etc.), and those who have experienced religious trauma.

In my free time I enjoy spending time with my two cats (Bilbo & Leia), and two golden retrievers (Rory & Marshall). I also am a huge bookworm, and love talking to anyone about their favorite books. Memes & TikToks are one of my favorite forms of self-care, so feel free to bring any that resonate to therapy with you!

I received my B.A. degree in Psychology at the University of Northern Colorado; and my M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Colorado Christian University. I have completed LPC Supervision Training through the Colorado Counseling Association, and can provide clinical supervision to counseling students and LPCC’s. In April 2022, I completed Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) Training through PRATI (Psychedelic Research and Training Institute).

You are not too far gone or too broken, and your struggles are valid.

Are you experiencing a loss or life transition that seems overwhelming, confusing, or painful? Are you struggling with not knowing where to start, or what to do? Have you experienced a scary or traumatic event, but don't know where to begin to heal?

It is my hope that you don’t face these struggles alone. Meeting clients where they are at is very important to me in the work that I do as a therapist. We’ll use a variety of tools to support your needs and reach your therapy goals. Let’s get creative with what works best for you!

Whether it be a one-time event or a lifelong struggle, I hope to use evidenced-based approaches to guide you towards healing. I am an expert grief Counselor recognized by the Grief Counseling Training Certificate (GCTC), trained in EMDR, motivational interviewing, ASIST (applied suicide interventions skills training), and certified in Intuitive Eating. I have experience working with trauma, grief and loss, life transitions, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, disordered eating, neurodivergence, and self-harm and suicidal ideation. I am eager to work with clients ages 12+ who may be experiencing any of these struggles.

When I am not at work, you will likely find me spending time with family, at a coffee shop, going for a walk, cuddling my pups (Sailor and Moxie), or hanging out with my chickens (Harry, Larry, Mary, Gary, and Poptart). I am a lover of thriller novels, hockey, social justice, hazelnut coffee, and anything to do with crafting. Oh, and I love a good TikTok or dad joke (ask me about my pizza joke!).

I attended St. Cloud State University where I received my Bachelor’s degree in Community Psychology, and at Colorado Christian University where I received my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

I look forward to working with you!
